BURLINGTON HAS GOT SOMETHING TO CHEER ABOUT IN PYEONGCHANG

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 7, 2018 - Four local Athletes are competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics and we want to Cheer them on!

Burlington Sport Alliance and Burlington Mall have partnered to create an opportunity for the residents of Burlington to come together and cheer on our local athletes in PyeongChang. There are two ways to get your message to our athletes. Starting Wednesday, February 7th  , and running until Wednesday  February, 14th there will be post cards as well as a large banner available at Guest Services; giving our community a chance to sign them and send their special message to all those competing for Canada.

Help us cheer on our Burlington Athletes : Renata Fast, Burlington’s Athlete of the Year and Olympic Ice Hockey competitor. Jesse Lumsden, member of Burlington’s Hall of Fame and Olympic Bobsleigh competitor. Keri Morrison, Olympic Long Track, Speed Skating competitor. Darren Gardner, Olympic Snowboard competitor.

On Friday February 9th, at 1:00pm MP., Karina Gould and Mayor, Rick Goldring will drop by to add their own special message. The banner will remain in place for signature until Wednesday February, 14th and post cards will be available while supplies last. The banner and cards will be shipped to Canada House in PyeongChang so our team knows our hearts are with them.

On Saturday February 10th from 11am to 2pm representatives from Burlington Sport Alliance will be on site at the banner and will be handing out post cards. The Burlington Sport Alliance is a collaboration of sporting organizations that work cooperatively to provide a collective voice for the ongoing promotion and education of the benefits of sport within Burlington. It recognizes sport volunteers, sport builders and athletes each year and supports the values and principles of True Sport and participACTION.

Janet Foley, President of the Burlington Sport Alliance, spearheaded this project and said “it is no surprise to her that Burlington is so well represented at these games” as her group is familiar with the careers of many of our local athletes. She was pleased to find Burlington Mall such a willing partner.

So come on out and cheer on your team!
